Biography

Mónica Crystal Ocegueda is a Mexican American visual artist from California whose work explores themes of identity, feminism, belonging, social justice, and the healing of both generational and personal trauma. Her practice is deeply rooted in her Mexican heritage and her Central Valley community, drawing from her personal experiences, family history, the lives of farmworkers, and the voices of Chicana women. Ocegueda approaches art as a form of documentation, an act of remembrance and resistance in a world that often seeks to erase Mexican culture and ancestral knowledge. Her intention is to embrace and empower cultural narratives, creating spaces for reflection, visibility, healing, and collective resilience. Ocegueda’s work has been exhibited internationally and throughout California; she is currently pursuing her MFA at San Francisco State University, where she also teaches and serves as a graduate assistant in both Photography and Sculpture and Expanded Practices.
